Asia Wellness & Fitness Event Guide: Best Races, Yoga & Health Events This 2020

Now that the Year of the Rat is in full swing, all kinds of health, fitness and wellness events are popping up across the region. As more of us are hoping to get healthier, stronger and fitter, here’s what’s lined up for Asia in 2020 from wellness festivals, yoga gatherings and outdoor races to fitness session events.

The MindBodySpirit Festival – Australia 

The MindBodySpirit Festival is the largest health and wellbeing event in Australia. The event, which is free to attend, showcases over 200 exhibitors, seminars, well-being pampering sessions and meditation workshops, and is held in three separate events in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. They’ve recently announced dates for the Brisbane event, which will take place between 28th February and 1st March this year, and between 12th to 15th March for the Sydney Festival.

BaliSpirit Festival – Bali, Indonesia 

BaliSpirit Festival is an annual celebration of yoga, dance and music in Ubud, Bali. This year, the event will be taking place from 29th March to 5th April, with an incredible line-up of yoga and meditation sessions, dance and martial arts classes, sound healing and breathwork workshops, well-being seminars and loads of inspiring talks and music.

IRIS Festival – Hong Kong 

Running for the past 9 years, the IRIS Festival is an annual weekend event comprising yoga, meditation and wellness marketplace filled with healthy yet delicious food and well-being products in Hong Kong. They have yet to announce their dates for the upcoming 2020 IRIS Festival, so be sure to stay tuned!

Wonderfruit Festival – Pattaya, Thailand  

Wonderfruit is an annual arts, music and sustainable lifestyle festival that takes place at the Siam Country Club outside of Pattaya, Thailand. With mind-expanding talks, wellness workshops and eco-friendly product and service marketplace, the festival attracts over 20,000 attendees every year. Now in their 7th year, be sure to keep on the lookout for when they confirm the official dates for 2020.

Evolution Asia Yoga Conference – Hong Kong

Evolution Asia Yoga Conference is Asia’s leading yoga wellness and conference exhibition. Featuring acclaimed yoga leaders and wellness innovators from all over the world, the conference line-up will involve more than 100 classes, workshops, seminars and activities over the multi-day period. They have yet to announce their official dates for 2020, but keep your eyes peeled!

Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon – Hong Kong

Update: The Marathon was cancelled due to the Novel Coronavirus outbreak.

One of the largest sporting events that happen each year in Hong Kong, the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon belongs to the Gold Label Road Race by the International Association of Athletics Federations. In addition to the full marathon, participants can opt for the half marathon, 10-kilometre run, 10 or 30-kilometre wheelchair race, with over 70,000 domestic and international runners participating. This year, the famous race will be taking place on the 9th February.

Ultra Race by The Green Race – Hong Kong

The Green Race (TGR) is an international road and trail running event, and strives to contribute to the local community and environmental protection by organising running plans and trails sustainably. They don’t use any disposable course markings, packaging, disposable cups and water bottles and even their trophies and medals are made from FSC-sourced wood! TGR Ultra Race will be taking place in Tai Po, Hong Kong from 21st – 22nd March this year.

Merrell Challenge – Hong Kong 

Merrell Challenge is a duathlon event involving kayaking and river running, and is one of the best adventure races hosted by Hong Kong. This year, the 4th edition of the race will be taking place on the 29th March. So gather up a team and get training for an outdoor challenge!

Spartan Race – Hong Kong

The Spartan Race is an annual obstacle race with various distances and difficulties, held all over the world, including in Hong Kong. From a 3-kilometre race for kids to a 5-kilometre night race, sprint race and a 10-kilometre super race, there is something for everyone to join in. This year in Hong Kong, the race will take place at the Kam Tin Country Club on the 18th April.

Ultra Trail – Chiang Rai 

The Ultra Trail is Thailand’s annual super-trail race hosted by the Singha Park in Chiang Rai. To cater to everyone, there are races of different distances available, but indeed all are for endurance athletes – there are 3 trail runs: 230-kilometre, 122-kilometre and 66-kilometre races. The Ultra Trail will be happening on the 23rd October this year.
