With flexitarianism and plant-based dining on the rise, more and more restaurants and cafes in Hong Kong are now offering vegan breakfast options to diners. Tired of doing your own research? Well we have done it for you. Below is our roundup of Hong Kong’s best plant-based breakfast spots, from vegan fry-ups to healthy smoothie bowls.

LN Fortunate Coffee

Fortunate Waffles with HappyCow Ice-cream

Sai Ying Pun’s neighbourhood vegan favourite, LN Fortunate Coffee, is a must-go if you love a homestyle love-filled breakfast. They offer a Hong Kong-Western all-day breakfast dish featuring vegan scrambled eggs, vegan sausage, potato wedges, fruit salad and toast paired with orange juice or coffee. Other breakfast classics are also served up at the cosy café, including waffles served with fruit and HappyCow’s ice-cream, scrumptious muffins and of course, a vegan take on Hong Kong’s famous egg bubble waffles and local cha chaan teng-style Chan-dan-meen (ham and egg noodles).

Veggie SF

Veggie SF All-Day Breakfast

Veggie SF is a 1950s San Francisco themed vegan spot located conveniently in Central. Serving up American flavours and International cuisine favourites, the eclectically decorated restaurant will impress diners with their all-day breakfast that comes with homemade dairy-free pesto topped toast, fried Portobello mushrooms, potatoes, soy goodies and a daily soup. Customers can also pair their meal with Hong Kong classics such as the Brown Sugar Ginger Tea or Ginger Soymilk, or the range of fruity fresh cold-pressed juices on offer.

BE-JUICED+BAR

Açai Bowl topped with Walnuts, Strawberries and Blueberries

Those familiar with healthy juices might already know BE-JUICED+BAR for their range of detoxifying juice cleanses, but they also offer both raw and hot breakfast options. In addition to their extensive juice and smoothie menu, the hip café boasts an açai bowl bar with a whopping list of fruit, nuts, seeds and nut butter toppings. Morning birds can also choose from their plant-based bagel selection, from mashed avocado to their version of a “PBJ” made with blueberry chia jam, all-natural peanut butter and banana slices. Kind Kitchen by Green Common

Unevil French Toast

Hong Kong’s popular plant-based retail and deli chain Green Common unveiled its fully vegan restaurant concept Kind Kitchen last year at Nan Fung Place. Some of the items showcased include the Unevil French Toast cooked with JUST Egg and the Mango Chia Seed Pudding served with a vegan version of the city’s classic Hong Kong-style Milk Tea made with Oatly.

R&R Bagels

The Vegan Bagel with Hummus, Avocado and Arugula

Founded by two bagel enthusiasts, R&R Bagels is the city’s one-stop shop for a proper bagel fix. The bagels offered by the store are home-baked every day according to their meticulously perfected their dough recipes. While they also have non-vegan combinations on the menu, they do offer a plant-based bagel with build-it-yourself fillings. They also have a classic The Vegan bagel available all-day which is bound to satisfy vegans and omnivores alike with their homemade hummus, smashed avocado, arugula, coconut amino sauce, shaved almonds and chia seeds.

Fresca

Steamed Chocolate-Tofu Muffin

The small but vibing café serves fresh, delicious and healthy food for both dine-in and to takeaway. Made from locally farmed and daily harvested ingredients, Fresca’s menu changes according to the season and weather to cater to not only health-oriented diners but also those conscious of minimising their carbon footprint by eating dishes that are crafted from “Farm to Table”. Although they are better known for their delicious whole-food salad bar, they also serve breakfast highlights such as the Chocolate-Tofu Steamed Gluten-free Muffin, house smoothies and herbal infusion teas.

Sakti Elixir Bar by Fivelements Habitats

Earl Grey Chia Seed Porridge

Sakti Elixir Bar by Hong Kong’s new urban wellness concept, Fivelements Habitats, debuts an all-star mouth-watering breakfast menu. Being 100 percent gluten, dairy and egg-free, the Bar’s menu not only boasts a terrific nutritional profile but is also environmentally friendly – all ingredients are locally sourced and sustainably farmed. From savoury Herbal Cashew Cheese Toast to sweet Brown Rice Kheer or the Raw Almond Granola, Sakti Elixir Bar covers all the bases for every early bird out there.

Café Causette

Fresh Fruit Platter, Energy Açai Bowl and Dimsum Selection (non-vegan)

Those with a taste for fine-dining will be wowed by Café Causette’s luxurious interior and show kitchens and its elegant international breakfast menu with a range of vegan options. The health-conscious will delight at their choices of Detox, Recharge, Recover and Refresh juices and the Energy Açai Bowl made with fruits, hemp hearts and spirulina. Fresh soybean milk, seasonal fresh fruit platters, sautéed market greens and an extensive selection of breads served with homemade jams makes it tough to walk away from breakfast at Café Causette unhappy.

VEDA

Avocado Toasts with various optional toppings

Hong Kong’s first and only vegetarian restaurant, VEDA, located in Ovolo Central, is a spot that vegans and omnivores should not miss. Vegans can choose to either go sweet with Golden Overnight Oats served with seasonal fruit, or savoury with the Solo Avocado Toast. There are also a range of sourdough, wheat, grain, rye and gluten-free bread available with various spreads, as well as lattes available with soy, oat, almond or coconut milk.

Confusion Kitchen

Full English Breakfast

Since its opening, Confusion Kitchen has established itself as one of the city’s most loved fully all animal product free restaurant in Sheung Wan. In addition to their core menu, they have in-house weekly rotating specials. Those looking for a nourishing breakfast will not be disappointed here with Confusion’s variety of sourdough sandwiches, wraps and toasts and the satisfying Full English Breakfast fry-up baked beans, tofu scramble, mushrooms, tomatoes and soy-based bacon.
