It’s no secret that the foods we eat play a crucial role to our overall health. It gives us the energy and nutrients to grow and develop, remain healthy and active to move, work, play, think and learn. Combined with exercise, your nutritional habits will help you gain strength and lose fat for a healthy body. Rooted in fitness, CrossFit Asphodel has been a pioneer of the Hong Kong health and wellness community since 2010- they were the city’s first official box. Uniting fitness nutrition and the finest of gourmet vegan, the veteran gym has teamed up with pioneering vegetarian establishment Grassroots Pantry to launch Asphodeli, the newest grab-and-go concept for fit food lovers.

“This project proved to be quite a challenge,” Grassroots founder & chef Peggy Chan said in a statement. “When chefs create dishes, we almost always begin with an ingredient or an inspiration, and rarely from a nutritional standpoint. With Asphodeli, we had to consider nutritional value first while also ensuring the quality, taste and sensory components are consistent with our Grassroots Pantry dishes.”

Developed by Chan herself, Asphodeli‘s 20 dishes showcase the same delicious, innovative, and nutrient-rich standard the diminutive powerhouse is known for at her popular plant-based gourmet bistro in convenient to-go formats like salad boxes, wraps & sushi. Chan features plant-based protein rich ingredients such as hedgehog mushrooms, mung beans and chia seeds.

From breakfast bowls like the Black Sesame Seed Porridge with complex carbs like teff, quinoa, raw sprouted pumpkin seeds, oat milk and buckwheat granola to set you up right for the day, to a variety of lunch options like the Raw Spinach Wrap filled with kale, BBQ hedgehog mushrooms with kimchee, sweet potage, and smokey cashew mayo, to healthy baked snacks galore like energy balls and the Paleo Pizza Bomb with raw vegetable pepperoni, cashew mozzarella cheese in a gluten-free pizza dough, the Asphodeli menu has you covered from micro to macro. You can even opt for Chia Seed Pancakes from their All Day menu after a heavy sweat sesh next door. Most of the dishes are vegan, with a couple containing eggs.

Juices and elixirs like fresh turmeric, tamarind, and coconut nectar Jamu Kunyit and local cult fave coconut probiotic kefir water, QUOlixir, are offered throughout the day. Artisanal coffees are also available from locally roasted Beanery with dairy-free milk alternatives like almond or coconut milk and MCT Oil. Free from additives, dairy, gluten and refined sugar, while most of the menu is vegan, there are some items that do contain egg so please check with the staff if you have concerns.

In keeping with their commitment to the environment, all food packaging materials are completely biodegradable and printed with plant-based ink. Located in the gym’s entrance lobby, the deli is open to gym members and the public.
