Dining Concepts Launches Impossible Foods Dishes, Including #Plantbased Burgers

Longtime Hong Kong restaurant chain Dining Concepts has jumped on the plant-based wagon and introduced Silicon Valley food startup Impossible Foods‘ meatless patty to four of their popular restaurant concepts with the launch of six new dishes featuring the famed vegan patty at Alto Bar & Grill, BIZOU American Brasserie, Dear Lilly, and Mama San Restaurant & Bar.

New dishes include Chef Mike Boyle’s herbivorous interpretation of traditional Latin American minced Picadillo (100% vegan) served in butter lettuce cups at ALTO; Chef Bhupendra Singh’s Impossible Meat Bites (100% vegan) made with curried quinoa, baby asparagus and beetroot puree from Dear Lilly; and popular Indonesian dish, Dendeng Balado (100% vegan), with a caramelized Impossible Burger topped with pounded chili, kaffir lime and lemon basil from Chef Budiana at Mama San. Dear Lilly is also serving an Impossible Burger, as is American brasserie BIZOU, who have also Impossible American-Style Chili with cheddar cheese and sour cream.

Impossible Foods made headlines earlier this year announcing its first international commencement into Asia’s World City teaming up with big-named chefs May Chow of Little Bao and Happy Paradise and Uwe Opocensky of Beef & Liberty with both chefs. It seemed a natural transition for 16-year food and beverage veteran Dining Concepts to form an alliance with the plant-based meat darling of the food tech industry. “Impossible meat is easy to work with because it looks and tastes remarkably similar to beef, while also being a fully sustainable products,” explains Chef Boyle. “It’s a delicious and versatile item to work with.”

And there’s more good news for Impossible fans: Lan Kwai Fong based contemporary Korean fine dining eatery, Jinjuu, has also partnered with Impossible Foods to become the first Korean restaurant in Asia to introduce the Impossible Korean Gourmet menu, which features steamed Impossible Korean dumplings, Bulgogi Impossible Sliders, Korean Impossible tacos and crispy Korean Fried Impossible. August 2018 Update: Jinjuu has permanently closed down.

With a burgeoning vegan dining scene ready for its next phase of growth, Hong Kong has become an exciting place to enjoy plant-based menus: it is currently the only city in the world where one can taste the vegan Beyond Burger, eggless egg JUST Scramble, plant-based pork Omnipork and the Impossible patty.
