When we predicted you would be meeting more vegans everywhere this year, we really meant everywhere. From plant based F&B concepts popping up all over the city, to cruelty-free fashion having a moment, everything vegan is blowing up! And that includes desserts too! Although these sweet treats aren’t made with traditional milk or eggs, they’re healthier and just as tantalizing. Thanks to the amazing bakeries and dessert shops below, the celiacs, vegans and nut and dairy allergic folks of Hong Kong can have their cake and eat it too! (Sorry, we just had to 🤓) We’ve rounded up the top 10 tastiest places to order your vegan cake, guaranteed to make you smile. 

Sweet Secrets

One of the first bakeries in Hong Kong to cater to various food intolerance, Sweet Secrets have been offering delightful desserts since 1999. Over the past little while, owner Sarah Lee has made it her mission to become Hong Kong’s GO-TO allergen-free, healthy bakery. With an extensive menu of vegan-friendly handmade cookies and cupcakes to choose from, they also offer sweets free from gluten, refined sugar, soy, egg, nuts and dairy and will make anything on order. Using premium natural ingredients such as raw, organic coconut sugar and cold-pressed coconut oil, this little gem in Central is a hit with the corporate crowd, birthdays, wedding, baby, and bridal showers!

Sweetpea Cafe

A beloved Noho haunt famed for owner Angel Hon’s light and fluffy, Insta-worthy cakes, Sweetpea Cafe began with humble organic-only beginnings briefly before expanding their cake collection to gluten- and dairy- free offerings. All their airy and soft cakes are gluten-free (as is the entire Sweetpea menu), with a weekly vegan-friendly option on rotation at the cafe- however, you can order a custom vegan cake anytime! Swapping out milk with coconut cream and coconut butter, Hon adds organic, edible essential oils and flowers to bring out the flavor and taste of her creations. Read our complete review here.

From popular pop-up shops to permanent mainstays, The Cakery offers savory, mouth-watering desserts in a wide array of guilt-free choices. Opt for vegan-friendly or paleo cupcakes, or go for gluten-free, dairy-free, or organic cakes and cookies using only natural, nutrient-rich ingredients. Speaking from experience, their vegan strawberry and raspberry cheesecake is out of this world!

Kosyli Bakery (The Missing Piece)

Hong Kong’s charming home grown vegan bakery, Kosyli Bakery serves scrumptious vegan muffins like banana walnut and avocado pine nuts and delicious handmade cakes like Italian panettone, pistachio cream chocolate cake, dark chocolate cake with mocha cream frosting and dark chocolate ganache (!), and traditional bundt cakes. Their holiday creations are great too (think vegan Panettone, vegan CNY cakes and more!) Have a special vegan request? They are more than happy to create bespoke orders.

T.U.P. The Unique Peace

A talented and elegant baker, T.U.P., aka The Unique Peace, offers handmade vegan desserts and baked goods that are free from dairy, eggs, garlic, onion, faux meat or any other preservatives and additives. Their Facebook posts (and main mode of communication) is chock full of gorgeous and aesthetically graceful personalized wedding cakes, swoon-worthy tarts and pies, yummy cupcakes, cookies and so much more! The vanilla wedding cake with coconut tofu cream in all its simplicity is hauntingly beautiful – a look at their feed and you’ll see what we mean.

The Vege Lab

Similar to T.U.P., The Vege Lab is another social media-driven online dessert shop that focuses on plant-based desserts. Free from eggs, dairy, gluten, refined sugar, nuts, soy, gelatin and food coloring to suit your dietary needs, Veg Dining Lab’s made to order creations are ideal for those on allergen-free diets, and the founders will happily accommodate orders to your specific needs. From the looks of it, cakes seem to be their trademark but don’t discount the scrumptious looking mini bundt cakes of muffins they also offer.

Fa Fa Pastry

A custom vegan dessert company, Fa Fa Pastry serves up savory desserts and sweets made with love by local vegan Jennifer Lai, who also hosts baking workshops at a private space in Kwun Tong. All of Jennifer’s creations uses no artificial coloring, eggs, milk, butter, refined sugar or honey. Her classes includes techniques in vegan, raw, sugar-free, gluten-free birthday cakes, cookies, fondant cakes, cupcakes, and puddings.

Having rebranded from Tête-à-Tête (French for a private conversation between two persons), VeganBoo Bakery is back in action for some amazing vegan sweets this side of Tsim Sha Tsui! Baking Maniac

A dynamic mother and son duo, Baking Maniac creates imaginative and inventive baked goods – just like creations you’d see from Food Network’s wildly popular television show Ace of Cakes or Cake Boss’ Carlo’s Bake Shop. Yes, they’re that good-looking! And the proverbial icing on the cake? Rebel Girl Vegan

2018 Update: Rebel Girl Vegan is on hiatus and not taking orders. 

A mantra after our own heart, Rebel Girl Vegan stands for what we believe in: promoting vegan food in a “fun, unpretentious, and non-cultish way.” Offering tasty treats with ingredients that are good for you – dairy-, egg-, gluten-, soy-, nut-, and refined-sugar free, these girls are lit on the charity or festival markets around the city.
