We’re back with the most comprehensive list of new vegan eats to try out in Hong Kong. This June, get ready to grab a taste of everything from fishless fish burgers to spicy vegan Impossible dumplings, dairy-free boba tea. Below, our rundown of new plant-based restaurants joining the scene, green menu revamps at our favourite cafés and more. 

La Maison du Chocolat launches vegan collection

Your prayers have been answered, chocolate lovers. Luxury chocolatiers La Maison du Chocolat is launching their first ever 100% plant-based collection, made entirely butter-free, cream-free and animal fat-free – but of course, just as delicious. The gift box features a range of fruity ganaches, from orange to raspberry and sweetened with natural honey alternatives like plant-based agave and maple syrups.

Karana rolls out across Hong Kong restaurants

Singapore food tech Karana has made its Hong Kong debut, serving up its natural young jackfruit-based pork alternative across several restaurants in the city. Some of the establishments serving up Karana include, Repulse Bay’s Sip Song, the famed Chaat at Rosewood Hotel, burger chain Beef & Liberty, Deliveroo noodle experts Hot N’ Meen and neighbourhood brunch go-to Elephant Grounds.

Green Monday makes waves with OmniSeafood

Green Monday has expanded its range of plant-based alternatives with a brand new line of vegan seafood. Called OmniSeafood, the new brand boasts six products in total – classic fillet, golden fish fillet, ocean burger, crab cakes, OmniSalmon and OmniTuna. The fillet represents the world’s first non-breaded vegan fish alternative, while OmniTuna is OmniFoods’ first-ever shelf-stable product. It’ll initially be available in Kind Kitchen and Green Common before launching in more restaurants and in retail.

Oliver’s Super Sandwiches releases Green Monday menu

Fast casual lunch spot Oliver’s Super Sandwiches has just created a new menu in partnership with Green Monday, marking the first time the chain has launched an expansive vegetarian range. Diners will be able to choose from its housemade OmniPork plant-based burger, Gardein fishless fillet penne and chicken-free nuggets made by Alpha Foods – then top it off with a vegan latte made with Califia Farms’ oat milk.

Chilli Fagara debuts new veggie summer specials

Mala spice lovers will be glad to hear that Chilli Fagara has added new veggie and vegan options to their summer specials. Some of the herbivore-friendly dishes on the seasonal menu include crisp lotus root slices, crunchy wood ear mushroom salad, fresh lettuce wraps with Impossible meat, silken tofu with whole plant-based meat and a refreshing eggplant topped salad.

Fivelements serving plant-filled Spring dishes ahead of Summer revamp

Fivelements Sakti Elixir has recently revamped its menu and is currently serving up healthy dishes full of seasonal Spring vegetables and fruits – think black garlic kale salad, steamed broccoli on homemade keto seeded bread and pumpkin risotto. There’s also a range of dairy-free and egg-free desserts and their special seasonal fruit tartelette to top the wholesome meal off – a must-try before the restaurant gears up to serve its Summer menu in July.

Great Eagle Group debuts OmniPork dishes across Michelin-starred restaurants

In collaboration with Green Monday, the high-end restaurant group Great Eagle has released a whole range of new plant-based OmniPork dishes across its Michelin-starred establishments in Hong Kong. Expect mouthwatering traditional Chinese dishes – made without meat, and most without egg or dairy – from sauteed OmniPork and pine nuts at T’ang Court to OmniPork-stuffed morel mushrooms and pomelo peel at Yat Tung Heen. Ming Court in both Wanchai and Cordis Hotel locations will also be serving up OmniPork creations, like stuffed bamboo pith and OmniPork string beans.

Grab your vegan cheese subscription at La Taula 

La Taula, the vegan cheese shop run by plant-based private kitchen Masala & Olives, has launched its first-ever plant-based cheese subscription boxes featuring its artisanal nut-based handcrafted fromage. There are three monthly plans on offer – plant-based cheese, vegan cheese and crackers, vegan cheese and dessert – which can be renewed every three months.

Social Place rolls out meatless dim sum menu

Modern casual Chinese restaurant Social Place has just launched a new meatless menu, swapping out animal meat for a number of alternatives, such as Heura chicken, Unlimeat beef and OmniPork Luncheon, Strip and Mince. Among some of the dishes featured are “meatballs”, vegan siu mai, kung pao “chicken”, and “beef” stir-fry sugar snap peas. Note that some dishes may contain egg or dairy – vegans, make sure to check with staff. 

Butchers Club goes veggie with new delivery concept

The Butchers Club are going all-in on plant-based, launching a new delivery-only concept that will be entirely meat-free. Aptly named The Veggie Club, the service is now available on the Foodpanda platform with a menu featuring three Impossible Burgers, each topped with flavours from around the world – think Spanish grilled red peppers and a zingy romesco sauce, or vegan caesar dressing with romaine lettuce.

Mother Pearl brings vegan bubble tea to Upper House

Plant-based bubble tea concept Mother Pearl has just opened up in the prestigious Admiralty hotel Upper House, where it will be serving up its delicious drinks for a three-month pop-up. Most of Mother Pearl’s best-selling beverages and vegan bites will be available at the café, including its almond milk-based version of Hong Kong-style “yin-yeung” and oat and cashew milk taro latte – all sweetened only with natural ingredients like monk fruit sugar and blackstrap molasses.

Eaton HK brings on plant-based hotel dining 

Hong Kong’s Eaton Hotel has recently rolled out more than twenty new vegetarian and vegan dishes across its restaurants. Its all-day dining venue The Astor has debuted several OmniPork creations, including Korean-inspired rice cake and folded filo pastries, while its open-air bar Flower Years inside the food hall is dishing out OmniPork veggie nachos, porcini tortellini and and a healthy avocado and rocket salad. Michelin-starred Yat Tung Heen is also situated in the Eaton and will serve up herbivore-friendly dishes as part of the Great Eagle-Green Monday collab.

Big Dill reopens original Sai Ying Pun joint

Big Dill, the popular 100% vegan comfort food joint, recently refurbished its OG location in Third Street, Sai Ying Pun with a chic new pub design – perfect for chowing down their menu of plant-based burgers, fries, tater tots and gyros. Don’t forget to finish the meal with a cow-free milkshake or no-tella churros that would convince the most hardcore meat and dairy-lovers. 

Bidding farewell to beloved plant-based restaurants

While there are many exciting announcements in Hong Kong’s plant-based scene, there’s also a few pieces of sad news. We recently said goodbye to Confusion Plant-Based Kitchen and Deluxe Veggie, and will soon be bidding farewell to one of the most iconic vegan joints in the city, Veggie SF, after its 11 years of service in the Autumn.
