Ovolo Hotels, which runs hotels across Hong Kong and Australia, have just announced the release of their own range of OMG bathroom amenities to replace single-use plastic disposables.
The new environmental initiative in collaboration with Vanity Group will make a positive impact on reducing plastic pollution in Asia and around the world. All OMG Amenities are designed with sustainability in mind – the pump-dispenser bottles used are HDPE recyclable and refillable. The scheme, which has been implemented in Ovolo Woolloomooloo, has already seen a 98% reduction in disposable plastic ending up in landfills.
The launch of OMG Amenities by the Ovolo Group comes alongside a wave of action taken by the hospitality industry to reduce single-use waste and tackle global pollution. Marriott Hotels began phasing out bathroom miniatures and single-use straws and stirrers last year, and most recently, InterContinental Hotels Group has plans to ditch bathroom disposables by the end of 2021.
In April, Hong Kong hosted a G.R.E.E.N. Hospitality Conference to encourage strategic planning and comprehensive industry-wide measures that can help ease the chronic waste and pollution problem prevalent in the city and other destinations in the Asian region.
The introduction of sustainable bathroom amenities across all Ovolo’s hotels and their co-habitation concept, Mojo Nomad, will make it easier for guests to practice sustainability as they can avoid the hassle of having to travel with their own amenities, while also being mindful of environmental waste.
The founder and CEO of Ovolo Group, Girish Jhunjhnuwala, said: “We are committed to continuing our journey towards reducing our impact on the environment. Having already removed plastic straws from all properties, removing single-use plastic bathroom amenities was a natural next step in our journey towards sustainable living.”
Not only will this move eliminate plastic waste (yay for the planet!), the products are also vegan-friendly (no animal testing) and contain no toxic ingredients- the entire OMG range is free from parabens, sulphates, mineral oils and synthetic colors. OMG’s hair blends & body soaps are instead infused with essential oils, harnessing the power of plants.
Commenting on their new partnership with the Group, founder and CEO of Vanity Group Paul Tsalikis said: “We are both taking a stance on clean label products, harnessing the power of natural and sustainable ingredients – good for the body, skin, and planet.”
It’s a move in the right direction for Ovolo Group, especially when it comes to lessening the environmental impact of many business-as-usual mainstays that are prevalent across the hospitality industry in Asia, and around the world. Here’s hoping that the company’s decision to switch to refillable bathroom amenities will encourage more of their peers across the industry to adopt eco-friendly switches of their own.
