Plant-Based Impossible Burger Launches at Hotel ICON & Other Luxury Hotels in Hong Kong

The first luxury hotel in Hong Kong to launch popular meatless patty, Impossible Burger, outside the United States, Hotel ICON, has debuted to wide fanfare. Serving the famed plant-based ‘burger that bleeds’ at GREEN, the lobby’s sleek biophilic brasserie located under one of Asia’s largest vertical gardens, the ICON Impossible Burger (HKD140) comes with all the classic burger fixings like onions and pickles, topped on a vegetarian bun*, their secret burger sauce*, and sweet potato fries from Executive Chef Philip Leung.

“This collaboration brings a superior product to our customers, and gives us the ability to learn a new way of enjoying non meat,” Richard Hatter, General Manager of Hotel ICON, said in a statement. “At ICON, our customers are explorers looking for something different, original and refreshing. The Impossible Burger will appeal to the adventurous and creative.”

Following the initial start at GREEN, the design savvy hotel has expanded its Impossible Foods menu to their award-winning buffet restaurant, The Market. Showcasing five versatile dishes spanning from Cantonese to Southeast Asian flavors, guests can sample an array of Impossible Tandoori Kebab and Samosas, pan-fried Thai country sausages, and steamed buns to name a few. “We have chefs from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, China and Hong Kong,” states Hatter. “The Impossible Food products offer the chefs an opportunity to explore, innovate, and invent tasty plant-based dishes for meat lovers.”

The Impossible Foods patty is a boon to the environment, generating 87% fewer greenhouse gases and 95% less land than conventional beef. As Hatter reiterates,  “the Impossible Burger cooks, tastes and smells like ground beef from cows—but is made entirely from plants”.

The Silicon Valley foodtech company’s first international foray into Hong Kong made a big media splash earlier this year when they partnered with leading chefs, May Chow of Little Bao and Happy Paradise and Uwe Opocensky of Beef & Liberty before launching with Hotel ICON.

Impossible Foods’ plant-based burgers are making its way onto Asian menus all over the city. Additional luxury hotel partners include the W Hotel, the InterContinental Grand Standford Hong Kong and the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong so there’s plenty of dining option variety to enjoy the revolutionary plant patty.
