Where To Eat: Sheung Wan Vegan & Vegetarian Dining Guide

5 Mins Read

An eclectic mix of old and new, Sheung Wan is a perfect hub for all the good eats Hong Kong has to offer. And with our fair city getting more health conscious by the day, this gateway district is becoming a destination for plant-based plates with a vast array of cuisines to choose from. If you find yourself in this neighborhood looking for some veggie grub, we have you covered with our list of the best vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Sheung Wan!

FruitDay

If you’re a sucker for smoothies and superfood juices, look no further than FruitDay! Serving up vegan smoothies, cold-pressed juices, scrumptious salads and fruit-filled toast, they’ve got the tarty and tangy to sweet and savory. Try any of their weekly rotating salads in two sizes: regular (where you can choose up to 3 salad options out of 8) for HKD68 or large (which gets you 4 choices out of 8) for HKD75. Both comes with your choice of complimentary fruit tea or soup of the day. We quite enjoy their high-fiber Enchanted Peach Smoothie made peaches, raspberries, dates, chia seed and almond milk (HKD56) or the Kale Sparks Juice (HKD46) – a refreshing blend of kale, apple, melon, cucumber and lemon.

Veggi Monster

The newest herbivorous dinosaur to hit the Wing Lok takeaway block, Veggi Monster serves made-from-scratch vegan burgers, wraps, salads and snacks! Be sure to try their Dark Giant (HKD68), boasting a heap of portobello mushrooms on top of a black bean patty with kale, tomatoes, olives, and soy cheese smothered in black truffle sauce, wrapped up in charcoal bread! Wash it down with locally brewed Taboocha kombucha (HKD40) or with a sweet pot of Chia Fruit (HKD35) with blueberries, fresh mango and organic soy milk for a deliciously filling lunch.

12Noon

Situated on the ground floor of Nan Fung Place, 12Noon stocks all the delicious, healthy eats your body would want. Start your morning right with a light breakfast, booster shot, and a cold-pressed juice for HKD45. Their A-La-Carte menu is divided in three categories of prices varying from HKD 35 – 55 with tons of veggie and vegan options to choose from. Or opt for a set lunch with a hot or cold dish, side, dessert, AND cold-pressed juice starting at HKD65. There are fresh soba noodles to choose from to grilled veggie wraps or cruciferous kale salads. A few small tables are provided for dine in, but you might want to order for takeaway since the lunch crowd can get a bit cray.

Green Common Future Bar

We are pretty excited about this one! One of our favorite plant-based grocery stores, Green Common, has just unveiled Future Bar, a casual 30-seat dine in alongside their existing concept store at Nan Fung Place. Brightly lit with minimal interiors and simple pops of color, come and chow down on all things veg like The Beyond Burger (HKD78 and up), the vegan patty that tastes just like a traditional beef burger. If your palate is calling out for some Cantonese cuisine, their new Fried Udon with Gardein Beef in Black Pepper Sauce (HKD 75) is a slightly spicy entrée that hits the spot. Perfect for lunch or dinner, stay for a meal and get your grocery shopping done for a truly one-stop shop of all things healthy.

Zen Eat Cuisine

A new Japanese vegetarian establishment that just opened this fall, Zen Eat Cuisine set out to capture the value of meditation and intuition in each plant-based meal set amidst a beautiful, minimalistic space nicknamed the “Zen Cafeteria.” Serving set lunches (HKD 98) by appointment only, Zen Eat Cuisine serves imaginative vegan meals inspired by Japanese traditional cuisine. Immaculately prepared with delicate balance of flavors, there are additional side dishes for a bit extra as well as great cappuccinos and lattes.

Green Veggie

Green Veggie is a beloved vegan/vegetarian restaurant located in the heart of Sheung Wan. While there are no English menus available, the helpful staff are quick to recommend fantastic affordable dishes that can satiate even the most carnivorous eater. Dishes range from HKD 38 and up with set menus available. Please note Green Veggie has just moved location; the address on their website or Google Maps is not correct. Tip: do not enter through the building. Instead, take the small lift just left of the entrance that will take you straight to the restaurant on the third floor.

Ohms Cafe & Bar

Short for “Obey Heterological Methods,” (which is a unit of resistance in science talk) Ohms is an organic, vegan, fair trade cafe serving a variety of drinks and light food. Open from lunch until dinner, try any of their vegan milk (using organic soy, almond or cashew milk) drinks from HKD 38 and up paired with gluten-free pasta (HKD 78) or locally made vegan noodles. Their delicious dessert menu begins at HKD 68 for those with a sweet tooth. Oh, and all their booze is apparently also vegan so bottoms up guilt-free!
