Shi Fu Miz 2018: Hong Kong’s First Zero Waste Plastic-Free Music & Arts Festival

Mark your calendars, y’all! Hong Kong’s Shi Fu Miz Festival is coming back more conscious and livelier than ever this October 27th & 28th. Backed by a growing number of adventure seekers with an affinity for mixing art, music, well-being and ecology, the third annual creative art and music project will debut as Hong Kong’s first zero waste festival to offer modern and original cultural activities in Asia’s World City.

Demonstrating that fun and social responsibility go hand in hand, the two-day festival and camping event will host a slew of ecology talks and workshops, health and wellness activities surrounding mindfulness, meditation, yoga, street art, and of course, a stellar international lineup of performing artists. A marketplace will take place during the festival, daily farming sessions, and a soccer tournament on both days. Ticket holders are able to bring children aged 12-years-old and under for free.

Created by Hong Kong based creative agency, FuFu, and French music collective, La Mamie, the eco-friendly festival has taken great strides to implement green strategies protecting the sprawling 11-acre space on Sai Yuen Farm in Cheung Chau. The team partnered with Green Is The New Black (GITNB) who advised them on their ecology strategy. True to their goal of being Hong Kong’s first totally zero waste festival, Shi Fu Miz will:

• feature dedicated recycling bins for food waste and recyclables, respectively
• convert food waste into compost with a dedicated compost corner created for caterers and festival-goers to deposit their waste; offer wooden tokens will be used in lieu of conventional plastic rounds for festival payment
• shun single-use plastic on premises
• make use of eco-friendly, outdoor cigarette waste receptacles
• offer free filtered water at fountains stationed on camp grounds
• arrange a beach cleanup for volunteers at a nearby Park Tse Wan beach in exchange for free beer
• offer earth-friendly activities such as ecology talks & urban farming workshops

The program this year will include a blend of electronic and funk artists like Ben UFO, Dan Shake, Skatebård, Glenn Underground, Midori Aoyama, and much more. There’s even a silent disco for you to dance to your own beat. Grown in popularity over the last few years thanks to its forward-thinking approach to social activities and environmental issues, the festival aims to raise awareness on reducing our environmental impact to influence public behavior in an artistic and experiential setting. As one of the most sustainable outdoor events in the city, Shi Fu Miz is the music and art festival you don’t want to miss this year!

Shi Fu Miz Festival 2018 will take place 27-28 October at Sai Yuen Farm on Cheung Chau Island.  Advance tickets start from HK 380 and up.
