SolarSoundSystem, the makers of the solar and human kinetic energy powered sound system who are on a mission to fight climate change, is releasing a compilation record on 14th February this year to mark its 20th anniversary. Named “Solar Tracks # 01”, the record gathers 8 artists from its worldwide network and contains 6 tracks of DJ and producers that have been playing on the SolarSoundSystems. For every compilation sold, SolarSoundSystem will be planting a tree in the Amazon rainforest through a partnership with nonprofit One Tree Planted

To celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, SolarSoundSystem, the pioneers behind the renewable energy powered sound systems will be releasing a brand new compilation titled “Solar Tracks # 01”. The record, which will be available from 14th February, will carry 6 tracks of 8 internationally renowned DJs, producers and artists who have used SolarSoundSystems over the past twenty years. With a planned 4 exclusive productions ahead, this first record will include original tracks and remixes by ColdCut, Jay Ka, Ovhal44, Gregorythhme, Naduve, Tai Rona, Harrison and Francois Del Mundo. The compilation is available for pre-order in vinyl, which is limited to 300 copies, and will also be released digitally on the SolarSoundSystem website and Bandcamp.

One of the tracks, which will only be available on the vinyl version of the record, is ColdCut’s remix of “Timber”, the first song to denounce deforestation in 1997 in its music video. In tribute, SolarSoundSystems will be partnering up with environmental NGO One Tree Planted to plant a tree in Peru on behalf of every compilation sold in order to help efforts to restore and rebuild our planet’s precious forests, a resource that will help absorb carbon emissions in our atmosphere.

For the past twenty years, the bicycle and solar panel powered SolarSoundSystem has been on a mission to spread the message about climate change and educate people about environmental causes. To date, the organisation has supported over 600 events and has bases across France, Germany, Spain, Tel Aviv, Hong Kong and Switzerland, and has founded the world’s first 100% solar powered web radio dubbed Radio3S

As our climate crisis and ecological disasters continue to intensify, particularly in the wake of the devastating wildfires that have ravaged Australia, SolarSoundSystems hopes that the new record will help gather more people to use cultural hobbies such as music to shed a light on environmental protection.

With awareness about climate change reaching new heights, we’re indeed seeing more artists use their music for good. In August last year, iconic guitarist and songwriter David Gilmour of Pink Floyd auctioned off 126 of his guitars for a whopping US$ 21 million and donated the entire sum to the environmental charity ClientEarth. More recently, renowned DJ and record producer Matoma announced that his upcoming United States tour will be climate positive through a partnership with carbon offsetting platform CHOOOSE.

The compilation is available for pre-order in vinyl and digital on the SolarSoundSystem website and Bandcamp, and is set to be released on February 14, 2020.
