The Future of GREENovation Forum 2018: A Vision For A Plant-Based Planet

4 Mins Read

From pills to plants, smart phones to smart foods, and explosion of plant-based food brands in recent years, we are taking moves in the right direction for a more sustainable planet. While we still have a long way to go, countries and socially conscious businesses are looking at reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities for sustainable development that doesn’t degrade the environment. Back again to champion environmental progress, Hong Kong social enterprise Green Monday will be hosting its annual Future of GREENovation Forum

The plant-based movement has been on a steadfast rise in major cities across the globe- the UK now counts over 3 million self-declared vegans. Vegan burger patty company Impossible Foods just raised a record USD 114 million in venture capital. The global vegan and vegetarian market will exceed USD 6 billion by 2023.* Vegan restaurants are popping up all over metropolitan areas worldwide. Coffee chains are accommodating this shift by offering non-dairy milks, other than soy. Plant-based cookbooks are storming bookstore displays to pave the way for exciting, wholesome vegetable-forward recipes. The rise of zero waste social media influencers has also greatly contributed to the plant-based movement, advocating a green lifestyle chock full of elaborate smoothie bowls and eco-friendly, plastic-free coffee tumblers. Looking to advance the power of plants, the Future of GREENovation Forum is here to shed light on economic change. Now in its third year, the daylong conference is set to provide common ground for discussions, collaboration, education and innovation for a greener future.

Taking place the day after Earth Day on Monday, April 23rd, the summit will be held at the Cordis Hotel in Mong Kok. Last year’s event saw globally renowned talents such as renowned plant-based vegan chef, Daphne Cheng, Lighter co-founder, Alexis Fox (the popular platform that helps people to prepare plant-based meals; read our exclusive interview with the Chief Empowerment Officer), and practicing specialist surgeon and author, Dr. Irene Lo, share their inspiring and innovative visions for a greener future. This year, a series of star-studded international speakers ranging from food-tech entrepreneurs, impact investors, athletes and digital media experts will take the podium to discuss their vision and strategies to motivate businesses and individuals towards a more plant-forward lifestyle. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from dedicated entrepreneurs who have advanced food standards in society by creating social, economic and environmental impact through innovation and vision through their products and practices.

On deck will be Josh Tetrick of revolutionary vegan ‘egg’ phenom JUST (read our review of JUST Scramble) to talk about the food revolution ignited from one simple bean and Greg Steltenpohl of Califia Farms, the innovative leader of the wildly popular premium, award-winning, ready-to-drink plant milks. Impact investors like Dan Skaff of Radicle Impact and Roger Lienhard of Blue Horizon Corporation will be in attendance to discuss building businesses generate meaningful social and environmental impact. With a wave of conscious consumers, particularly millennials, embracing sustainability and demanding more from FMCG brands, expect panels to confer about media platforms, how corporations can initiate and incorporate green, wellness strategies into various businesses and influencers that champion plant-based lifestyle into the mainstream. We’ll be hearing from media companies such as Klaus Mitchell of Plant Based News, a top resource for content on animal rights, the environment, ethical consumerism and living green; Jodi Monelle, founder of LIVEKINDLY, a vegan and plant-based resource centering on sustainable and compassionate living; Vivian Kong, a Hong Kong plant-based Olympian fencer; and the heads of sustainability from MGM Macau and K11. Sonalie Figueiras, Green Queen founder and CEO, will be the forum’s MC and will moderate several panels and discussions.

A chance to learn from the best of the best, GREENovation attendees will be able to meet and hear from top experts, thought leaders and influencers across all industries and professions who champion a plant-based world. A great way to make connections to meet with like-minded individuals and businesses, you can take advantage of new ideas from a range of panels. A plant-based lunch curated by Green Monday’s F&B arm, Green Common, will be provided in collaboration with Cordis Hotel. Opening and closing the forum will be Asia’s plant-based David Yeung, Co-Founder of Green Monday, environmental and health advocate who has been instrumental in getting citizens of Hong Kong to eat green at least one day a week. For your continued personal and professional development, this year’s GREENovation Forum is definitely one calendar event not one to be missed!
