The Very Good Cheese Co: The Very Good Food Company To Relaunch Under Its New Brand

In a recent announcement, the plant-based food technology company The Very Good Food Company that manages the famous plant-based butcher shop The Very Good Butchers, recently announced that it will be relaunching its vegan cheeses under its new brand The Very Good Cheese Co. 

Vancouver-based The Very Good Food Company that recently acquired Canadian brand The Cultured Nut, which produces artisan vegan cheeses and is known for its block-style cheese announced its plans to relaunch its vegan cheeses like cheddars, Havarti/dill, and a smoked gouda under its new brand.

Created from fermented cashews that are soy and gluten-free the relaunch will see Bold Cheddah in white cheddar style, Cheddah in medium cheddar style, Dill’ish in garlic and dill-Havarti style, Goud Af in smoky gouda style and Pepper jack in Monterey jack style.

Already tested in the market, the dairy-free products have received positive feedback and will be made commercialy available in June to Canadian as well as U.S. audiences through the company’s e-commerce site and in Q3 2021, they will hit retail stores.

These five new products mark an important milestone in Very Good’s aim to build a massive plant-based product portfolio through organic development and acquisitions. 

In a press release seen by Green Queen, co-founder and CEO of The Very Good Cheese Co., Mitchell Scott said: “I am very proud of the VERY GOOD team’s quick execution on our strategy allowing us to enter the plant-based cheese market in record time. We completed the transaction in February and will have created a new brand, redesigned packaging and relaunched key SKUs in less than 16 weeks.”

These products join the company’s existing offering of 14+ plant-based food choices, including The Very Good Butchers’ Very Good Pepperoni and Very Good Dog that launched last year, a company that was founded by James Davison and Tania Friesen. By opening its first permanent shop in Victoria Public Market, this move marked the first time ever where a vegan butcher shop launched in western Canada. Since then, it has expanded its offerings to a subscription vegan butcher box and is growing its presence in the retail sector across Canada.

In addition to the relaunch, The Very Good Cheese Co. recently signed a U.S. distribution agreement with a leading publicly traded wholesale distributor of health and specialty food in North America, United Natural Foods (UNFI) to boost its retail presence in the U.S.

Before acquiring The Cultured Nut, the company had been selling its products on its own e-commerce platform and retail channels and through this, entered into the vegan dairy market.

In June last year, the company made headlines when it became the second plant-based firm in the world to launch an IPO as it began trading on the Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE), and at CAD$0.25 per share, the gross proceeds resulted in over CAD$4 million.
