5 Mins Read

Is there anything better than slurping up a big bowl of hot & steamy soup filled with silky noodles? Given Hong Kong’s penchant for bone broth soups, we know how hard it is for a plant-based eater to find a veggie version in Hong Kong that wasn’t meat-based. Which is why we took one for the team and scoured the city to find the best vegan and vegetarian noodle soups in town featuring aromatic, fresh, and unbelievably tasty flavors. Don’t believe the myth that vegetable-based soups isn’t enough to satisfy; we found some amazing eateries that is good enough to satisfy even the carnivores at your table. Soupy, slurpy and full of gorgeous flavor, here are the spots to get the best vegan noodle soups around town!

Vegan Ramen @ Ippudo

Finding vegan ramen in Hong Kong is akin to searching for the holy grail. There’s really very little on offer. Luckily, Japanese ramen chain Ippudo has debuted their Veggies Ramen (HKD 78) dish exclusively at only two branches in the city: Lab Concept in Admiralty and Century Square in Central. This Hong Kong-only recipe features their signature ‘Golden Vegetable Herb Broth’ and comes with with mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, rocket leaves and red onions – what vegan ramen dreams are made of! Shimmering with promise, this hearty bowl of vegan ramen definitely hits the spot.

Veggie Ramen from Ippudo is available only at:

Central: 3/F, 1 – 13 D’Aguilar Street, Century Square, Central, +852 2537 1829.

Admiralty: 1/F, Shop F04 – F06, 93 Queensway, Lab Concept inside Queensway Plaza, Admiralty, +852 2527 3525

Vegan Ramen @ Isoya Japanese Vegetarian

Another plant-based ramen option is Isoya Japanese Vegetarian, a vegetarian private kitchen featuring gorgeously delicate Japanese food. The menu changes frequently but they do sometimes offer vegan ramen, both for dinner (more of a fine dining experience) and for lunch (very well-priced set menu). Because of the rotating menu, we don’t have exact dish details but call ahead to find out when the ramen is making a return appearance.

9/F, 83 Wan Chai Rd, Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island, +852 5500 8812.

Vegan Udon @ LN Fortunate Coffee

A popular coffee shop in Sai Ying Pun, LN Fortunate Coffee serves some of the best plant-based udon around, they don’t just feature one or two types, they have a whole vegan udon menu! While we personally are fans of the Dumpling & Enoki Mushroom Udon (pictured above, HKD 78), we’ve heard rave reviews of the Vegan Black Pepper Slice & Faux Meatball Udon (HKD78). Served in ample portions, their affordably priced menu ranging from HKD 78 – 98 are perfectly vegan and perfectly delicious!

Vegan Pho @ Green Common

There are few better comfort foods than Vietnamese pho. For those looking for a plant adaptation, Green Common’s vegan version is just as delicious. Featuring a flavorful broth with a medley of fresh vegetables, lots of noodles, spices and Gardein beefless strips, Good Pho You (HKD 79) is fragrant and filling without being heavy. Without sacrificing their lust for flavor, be warned, this vegan champ is available only at select locations. The perfect plant-based twist on a classic noodle soup, you need to come and this out for yourself!

Good Pho You from Green Common is available at:

Vegan Pho @ VeggieSF

In Vietnam, pho is a breakfast tradition. So it seems appropriate for VeggieSF to whip up their famous Vietnamese rice noodle soup only on weekends and holidays when the rest of us don’t have to rush morning meals. Cali-Pho (HKD 158), their West Coast take on this popular street food is filled with soy protein, tofu, onion, chilies, basil and bean sprouts. Be warned that this weekend-only vegan dish comes in limited quantities that often sells out so be sure to catch it before they’re gone! Remember, it’s cash-only so come prepared.

Vegan Tom Yum Noodle Soup @ Thai Vegetarian Food

One of the most popular recipes of all the Thai soups, we can’t get enough of tom yum goong. Hot and sour, it’s so refreshing to know we can get our plant-based fix in Kowloon City at Thai Vegetarian Food. A small Thai Buddhist vegan establishment that features no garlic, leek, onion, shallots, or spring onions, their Tom Yum Soup With Noodles (HKD 50) is packed with so much flavor, exuding fragrant spices, herbs, chilis, and fresh lime juice generously used in the broth. While traditional tom yum relies on animal protein to enhance the flavor, you’ll see Thai Vegetarian Food’s meatless version can coax just as much flavor without it. This spicy broth based soup is possibly more healthy than the traditional version, and we love it.

Vegan Ramen & Vegan Dan Dan Noodles @ Kind Kitchen

The team behind Green Monday and Green Common have just launched their brand new 100% vegan dining concept Kind Kitchen and the menu features two fully vegan noodle soup dishes: the Omnipork Tan Tan Noodles (HKD 88) in a soy milk soup based topped with their new signature plant-based pork analog Omnipork mince with Sichuan chili sauce and the White Dragon Ramen (HKD 98), ramen noodles in a soymilk & miso soup base topped with lotus root, tofu, enoki mushrooms and pickles.
