Where To Eat: Wan Chai Vegetarian & Vegan Dining Guide

6 Mins Read

Lately, we’ve been finding ourselves drawn to Wan Chai more often than not. Aside from shopping on Tai Yuen Street for junk boat floaties or cruising for antiques through Queen’s Road East for the upcoming holidays, we have been flocking to this busy commercial area to try out all the amazing plant-based restaurants Wan Chai has to offer. As one of the hottest vegetarian dining scenes in the neighborhood, choices and cuisines abound almost every where you look. Bringing thoughtful and well-crafted dishes into the limelight, here is our list of the best vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Wan Chai!

12Noon (Vegan-Friendly)

Almost identical in setup to its Sheung Wan sister locale, 12Noon Wan Chai is a prime hub for all busy urbanites to get their healthy lunch, dinner and juice options. Their cold-press juices are prepared daily using only fresh and natural ingredients to restore balance and rid yourself of toxins. Breakfast with a morning booster shot and cold-press juice will set you back about HKD45. Grab any of their freshly made salads, noodles, wraps, rolls for lunch a-la-carte from HKD 35 and up, or better yet, opt for their awesome lunch set which includes entrée, side, dessert, and a juice starting at HKD65. Refresh, rehydrate and rejuvenate your hunger with this fast casual to-go spot.

Happy Veggies

We love Happy Veggies for their yummy vegetarian menu (literally, we have not had a bad dish here) and for what their company represents. As one of the first vegetarian, non-profit social enterprises in Hong Kong, the restaurant is staffed almost entirely by deaf waiters, waitresses or those with heart conditions. Their menus are filled with pictures of delicious lunch and dinner entrées so dining patrons can reference to when ordering. We tend to go in a big group each time we visit Happy Veggies so we can try all the menu options!

Khana Khazana (Vegan-Friendly)

One of the best vegetarian Indian restaurants on Hong Kong island, we love Khana Khazana’s wide selection of North and South Indian dishes with their culinary team of Tandoor, curry, and famed South Indian chefs starting at about HKD70 for entrées. What’s more, most dishes can be prepared vegan as well, and there is also a separate Jain menu available. With an extensive Indian street food menu like dosas and idlis, we can attest that these snacks washes down nicely with drinks from their fully stocked bar.

A longstanding gem, Loving Hut is one of the largest vegan restaurant chains on the planet. In its Wan Chai location, the menu abounds with Asian and western dishes like soups, salads, noodles, mock meats and dumplings with entrées starting from HKD60 and up. Try their lunch set which allows you to choose three dishes with red yeast rice, soup, and herbal tea for an affordable HKD48. Their vegan pizza, always sold in limited quantities and almost always sold out, is pretty delicious if you can get your hands before the lunch crowds does. During dinnertime, there is often an open mic night of various singers and songwriters to serenade you throughout their spacious second floor walk up. Committed to promoting a plant-based lifestyle, they also carry vegan dog and cat food for our furry friends!

Isoya Japanese Vegetarian Restaurant (Vegan-Friendly)

A beloved traditional Japanese restaurant that flies under the radar (as there is no web site or official Facebook page), Isoya is worth the hype and the price tag. Serving vegetarian sushi, maki rolls, soba noodles, mocha, tempura and the like using conventional Japanese produce that are in season, the cozy Wan Chai haunt offers set lunches (starting at HKD98) and dinners (a meal for two could set you back about HKD800) in the highest quality. Dishes can be altered to suit vegans.
