HK Yoga Teacher Series: Meet Hersha Harilela Chellaram

2 Mins Read

How did yoga enter your life?

In 2002, Swami Satchidananda (my Guru since childhood), suggested I spend a few weeks at his ashram to take a break from my stressed and confused life to sort my mind out. I took a yoga teacher training and never looked back.

Where and what type of yoga do you teach?

I run Integral Yoga teacher trainings: 200-hour, 500-hour, Prenatal, Accessible and Continuing Education and I manage YAMA Foundation, a non-profit that makes yoga, art and meditation accessible to Hong Kong’s underserved communities at Platform in Sai Ying Pun.

What yoga mat do you use every day?

I love Jade Yoga mats because they are eco-friendly and have great grip.

GQ: Find them at The Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong and at Colorpilla.

What yoga accessory do you swear by?

The yoga accessory that I use most frequently and am extremely fond of is my Sun & Moon Originals buckwheat meditation cushion.

What is your favorite yogawear brand?

I’m old school, I teach in all whites. There used to be a tiny shop in Tsim Sha Tsui called Yoga View that had great whites but it closed. I now shop online to find good whites…unless you can help me Green Queen!

GQ: We are on it!

What is your daily mantra?

My daily mantra is a secret one given to me by my Guru, but I have a life motto of sorts:Easeful body, peaceful mind, useful life. Click To Tweet

What yoga studio do you enjoy practicing at?

Yoga Bam Bam is a great studio with a fun vibe and an authentic owner who loves life.

Where do you go to eat?

Love True Food creates gourmet Ayurvedic and Yogic food made by a chef who’s a true foodie: she loves and respects all food!

What’s your favorite thing about Green Queen?

When I’m looking for good, reliable information, Green Queen is the place.
