This week’s illustration is about being an inspiration to people. I’ve gotten a lot of feedback from my friends about how they’ve tried to make changes towards a more sustainable lifestyle because they were inspired by the efforts that I've put in. The illustration depicts three different scenarios where we can apply a waste-free lifestyle. The first is a lady bringing her own food container for a takeaway, and as she moves on to the bulk store and the 2nd hand clothes shop, more people join her. The idea is to show the influence that we can have when we try to be better. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This past week has been an all time low for the climate change movement globally. We've got sir David Attenborough telling us we we're at an irreversible point when it comes to species extinction at the same time as a new report alerts us that the current extinction levels are unprecedented. Another thing that's unprecedented? The wildfires ravaging the U.S. North West in what climate scientists are sounding the warning bell over and over with rising death tolls and overwhelmed fire services and hospitals, not to mention hundreds of thousands of evacuees. In the UK, the government wants to classify the controversial climate crisis protest group Extinction Rebellion (there's that pesky extinction word again) as an organised crime organisation. Here in Hong Kong, it's 32 degrees in mid September.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Remember all the climate change consequences we've been banging on about? They're here. It's not as if we are talking about some far away risk that we humans can't assess in our daily life. Everything is going wrong NOW. Our beaches are filthy with waste. Our food systems are ravaged by disease and toxins. Our landfills are overflowing with clothes we didn't need. Our oceans are drowning in forever plastic. Our air is poisoning us with decades of harmful emissions from too much travel, too much meat, too much energy. Our lifestyles are threatened by pandemics- like the one we're currently living through, that has just brought most of the world to a standstill. Our livelihoods are at risk due to extreme weather becoming commonplace. Our children's safe futures are hard to imagine...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
