Hong Kong is welcoming the city’s first “Sustainable September” campaign to encourage consumers to build eco-conscious wardrobes. The campaign, launched by preloved fashion platform Vestiaire Collective in partnership with environmental charity EcoDrive, will see influential individuals donate their preloved garments to be sold online on the platform, with proceeds going towards local initiatives to reduce single-use plastics.

Paris-based resale fashion online platform Vestiaire Collective is collaborating with local NGO EcoDrive to bring to Hong Kong the city’s first “Sustainable September” campaign. A number of high-profile figures will be participating in the campaign to donate some of their seasonless garments to give them a second life

These pieces will be showcased on Vestiaire Collective this September, with all sales made until December 1 this year benefiting EcoDrive and its initiatives to raise awareness of plastic pollution in the city

Wardrobe management platform PAKT will also be supporting the campaign to facilitate with the listing process and ensure that the garments are well cared for in their storage facility throughout the initiative.

All of EcoDrive’s board members will be donating their preloved fashion pieces to the campaign, including Angela Cheng-Matsuzawa, the co-founder of PunchDetox, social issues ambassador Sherry Fung, Emily Lam Ho, the founder and CEO of Empact28 and co-founder of EcoDrive, and founder of The Lion Rock Press Claire Yates.

Although our mission is to reduce single-use plastics, we also want to build a sustainable future for the next generation. We wholeheartedly support giving fashion a new life, which will keep it out of landfill and extend its lifecycle to be enjoyed by others.

Circular fashion is a mindset and an awareness change. Up to 79% of people’s wardrobes worldwide are left unworn. This notion of reduce and reuse is integral to all that we do at Vestiaire Collective and is at the heart of circular fashion.

With over 11 million items of clothing ending up in landfills every single week and the fashion industry driving 10% of global carbon emissions, lengthening the lifespan of fashion items by purchasing secondhand is one of the most important actions that consumers can take to reduce their environmental footprint.

“Circular fashion is a mindset and an awareness change. Up to 79% of people’s wardrobes worldwide are left unworn,” explained Fanny Moizant, co-founder and president of Vestiaire Collective.

“This notion of reduce and reuse is integral to all that we do at Vestiaire Collective and is at the heart of circular fashion. We are thrilled to partner with EcoDrive to further champion this message and ultimately change behavior.”
