With more and more people looking to lead a plant-based lifestyle, Hong Kong has progressed leaps and bounds in terms of offering conscious consumers vegan grocery options: green grocery stores have been sprouting up all over our fair city. If you’re tired of reading labels and researching ingredients, these specialty stores have done most of the legwork so you don’t have to constantly scan the packaging to uncover hidden ingredients. Below, we’ve rounded up Hong Kong’s best vegan grocery stores to help you on your journey towards an effortless, cruelty-free life. #plantforward

Corner Block

Stocking dozens of brands in all grocery categories, Corner Block has been fostering a culture of healthy home eating in Hong Kong since 2008 (under the moniker O2H until 2013). Offering certified organic produce (imported weekly from sunny California), and beloved brands like superfood snack favorite Rhythm Superfoods, organic baking brand Arrowhead Mills, and gluten-free snacks from Dr. Schaer, Corner Block is packed with vegan-friendly options. A big plus: all their produce and products can be purchased online for home or office delivery.

Foodcraft

A local health food manufacturer with their own line of handmade goodies like vegan coconut yogurt, vegan kimchee, sauerkraut, chickpea miso, dehydrated crackers and gluten-free/paleo cookies, Foodcraft is a must bookmark site when it comes to delicious, handcrafted vegan prepared foods. But did you know that they also stock the entire range of London-based Rude Health’s  dairy-free milk drinks, granolas and mueslis, Profusion ancient grain pastas and NiuLife coconut aminos?

Just Green

Hong Kong’s original health-food grocery, Just Green Organic Convenience Store (yes, that’s the actual name) has been stocking healthy Hong Kong kitchens with vegan essentials for almost a decade. With a whopping nine locations, Just Green continues to offers  dozens of brands in all grocery categories from natural and organic foods, beverages, snacks, supplements and much more with a great deal of shelf-space devoted to plant-based goodies. Highlights include Hong Kong’s very own handcrafted ice cream Happy Cow, plant-based buttery spreads and nut butter line Earth Balance, non-dairy culture coconut milk yogurt Coconut Grove and raw vegan clean snack saviors Hail Merry.

Green Common

Probably the recognizable vegetarian grocery store (and Hong Kong’s only plant-based retail chain) thanks to its social enterprise arm, Green Monday, Green Common is home to a bevy of veggie-friendly brands like Canadian “garden” protein brand Gardein, cult California-cultured vegan cheese line Miyoko’s Kitchen, failsafe and delicious dairy-free Daiya cheese, and plant-based milks and creamer Califia Farms. They are also responsible for introducing the wildly popular plant-based burger patty that tastes freakishly like the real thing, the Beyond Burger to our fair city- the frozen patties are sold exclusively at their locations.

One Vegan Shop

Striving to bring convenience and ease to herbivores in the New Territories, One Vegan Shop is stocked full of some our favorite finds like 100% dairy-free vegan cheese Sheese, Biona Organic nut spreads, Mr. Organic pasta, and cruelty-free Benevo pet food (vegan animals need to eat too!). Everything they stock is vegan-friendly and a majority of their items are directly imported from the US, UK, and other European countries so they have an evolving selection.

Profood

Offering a curated selection of artisanal and healthy foods from around the world, Profood tends to be know for their Italian deli products but give the a gander, as of late they are widening their selection towards more healthy, plant-based options, working with discerning brands like organic, vegan Thai sauce & condiment company Mekhala, Russian natural snack bar company Take A Bite, and Italian gluten-free food company (which makes the best gluten-free teff pasta, mixes and flours) Nativa Food.

SpiceBox Organics

Featuring a wide range of certified organic spices, grains, pulses, herbs, nuts, seeds and flours under their own brand (which means decent savings for you), SpiceBox Organics’ three Hong Kong island locations specializes in sourcing premium, local and international brands like local kombucha fave Taboocha and California cult-fave raw, vegan, organic, gluten-free flatbread WrawPs. In short, SpiceBox is an ideal place to stock up on vegan pantry essentials. Bonus: everything’s organic!

The Store

Located smack dab in the middle of Central (adjacent to the Mid-Levels escalator), The Store brings together premium and affordable health and wellness products to our fair city. With a vast lineup of supplements, vitamins and superfoods from top companies like Navitas Organics, vegan protein powder fave Sunwarrior, and Hong Kong’s original award winning local bean to bar chocolate maker, Raiz The Bar, there is something for everyone and with the launch of their brand new online superstore, they have got your covered!
