F&B company, Simple Mills which focuses on developing better-for-you cookies, snack bars, and baking mixes, has unveiled a new line of Organic Seed Flour Crackers that represent the firm’s commitment to supporting regenerative farming practices.

Founded in 2012, U.S.-based company Simple Mills launched a new range of vegan crackers available in three flavours including original and garlic & herb. The crackers are made from are a seed blend of sunflower, pumpkin and flax, along with flour, providing customers with a protein and fibre rich snack.

In addition to these benefits, the hexagon-shaped crackers are nutrient-dense, filled with antioxidants, contain no artificial ingredients, gluten-free, paleo-friendly and non-GMO project verified.

This is the brand’s first cracker to earn the USDA Organic Certification for its support to regenerative agriculture. Having established direct contact with farmers in the Midwestern region, Simple Mills was able to ensure that the sunflower used in the products is grown from organic crops.

These agreements ensure financial benefits to help boost the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices that lead to the soil being healthier thus taking steps to restore the planet.

In a press release seen by Green Queen, VP of Sustainability at Simple Mills Shauna Sadowski, said that the way food is grown has a direct impact on the planet. “It’s not only cars and airplanes that are causing climate change – it’s the food on our plates. While agriculture is one of the key contributors to climate change, it can also be a part of the solution. That’s why Simple Mills is helping to advance regenerative agriculture, working with suppliers and farmers to adopt practices like extended crop rotations, cover cropping, and organic amendments that build healthy soil and ultimately, heal the land.”

Several companies are innovating and encouraging models that support this kind of multi-stakeholder, holistic farming philosophy. For instance, reNature is working with farmers, corporations, and venture capitalists to focus on the benefits of regenerative agroforestry and joined forces with giants like Nestle and Lush Cosmetics to develop models that support this practice in the supply chain.

Recently and in a world-first, following U.S. president Joe Biden’s announcement that plans are underway to financially support farmers that use practices that trap carbon, a regenerative farmer earned US$115,000 as part of a new private market of carbon credits that are based on this kind of agriculture.
