Looking for a meatless meal away from the hustle and bustle of Central that is worth the drive taste-wise? Hong Kong now boasts a plethora of delicious dining options for even the most discerning veggie food-lover. So skip the beef and check out some of these (more hidden) choice eateries serving up gourmet plant-based dishes!

September 2017 Update: 3/3rds has closed down. 
A welcome reprieve from the industrial buildings of Wong Chuk Hang, 3/3rds delights gourmet vegetarian Hong Kongers with their Ottolenghi-esque moreish salad selection.  They cater to the lunch and after-work crowd with a Mediterranean inspired menu of  soups, salads, sandwiches (including their finger-licking three cheese toastie) and pizzas, though takeaway is also an option. Their menu changes frequently to reflect the best produce of the season so be prepared to return again and again.
Green Queen Loves: The roasted aubergine (eggplant) with saffron yoghurt, topped with pomegranate seeds, pine nuts and fresh basil leaves is a must-eat. Hands down, one of the city’s best vegetarian dishes.

Delicious vegetarian fare is available in abundance at Kale, whose eponymous ingredient is the star of the show, featuring in some form in every dish (these people are marketing geniuses). The menu features an array of salads included roast pumpkin salad, vegetarian sliders (served on black and white sesame seed buns or gluten-free bread if preferred), sweet potato fries, omelettes and unusual desserts like kale lemon pie and snacks like kale granola. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner so you can get your kale fix anytime!
Green Queen Loves: The kale salad of course! They serve an organic kale salad with avocado slices and steamed beetroot cubes dressed in a superfood-filled apple cider vinegar, garlic and cumin vinaigrette.

Artichoke Canteen

With a focus on organic ingredients, sophisticated flavours and a menu designed to accommodate various dietary profiles such as vegan, gluten-free and nut-free, the friendly folks at Artichoke Canteen have flexibility on their mind. They are passionate about sourcing: from their wood-roasted artichoke hearts stuffed with quinoa to their green pea capuccino to their homemade wild mushroom tortellini, their modern European menu items evoke this commitment to seasonality and freshness.Don’t forget to wash it all down with a warm red from their list of biodynamic wines. And did we mention they offer a Four Course Fine Dining Menu especially designed for vegetarians and vegans? They are open for both lunch and dinner.
Green Queen Loves: What can we say? We love pizza. And this thin crust, fresh passata and wild rocket leave concoction stole our (culinary) heart!

2016 Update: Maya Cafe has now moved to Sheung Wan
Packed with Mediterranean flavours, chef Tina Barrat of Maya Cafe offers a menu that is 100% vegetarian, mostly gluten-free and vegan and in large part raw. No small feat considering the menu’s impressive variety- they have a long list of choices for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and sharing platters- we heartily recommend their mezze selection and their raw cheese plate. They also serve made to order green juices and smoothies including fresh wheatgrass shots and raw vegan + gluten free sweet treats such as Banana Pie and Cheese Cake.
Green Queen Loves: Meatless meatballs? Yes please! Don’t miss their extremely tasty gluten-free mushrooms, oatmeal and parmesan balls served on a bed with red & brown rice along with tomato salsa.

Light Radiant Food

2016 Update: Light Radiant Food has now closed down.

As if Sai Ying Pun wasn’t hip enough, the up and coming Westerhood boasts hidden veggie gem Light Radiant Food. From the plant filled eating area to the eccentric owner who actually walks the green talk to the incredibly large selection of organic teas, those in the know are fans of serves up delicious vegetarian fare to those in the know. The menu includes light and colorful salads, pastas, and fried rice dishes. The owner is extremely passionate about vegetarian food and ingredients and sources organic ingredients when possible. They are open for both lunch and dinner.
Green Queen Loves: The vegetarian black bean burger with homemade pesto in a freshly toasted wholewheat bun (accompanied by their organic rainbow salad in a passionfruit dressing!) is possibly the best non-meat burger in the city!

Dandy’s Organic Cafe

August 2017 Update: Dandy’s Organic Cafe has now closed down.

Dandy’s Organic Cafe is a well-kept secret amongst the healthy Sheung Wan set in the know. Chef Vivi Cheung has a coterie of admirers thanks to her fervent commitment to gourmet ‘alkaline cleansing food.’ The menu is packed with vegan and vegetarian dishes that are also gluten-free and low-GI. Ingredients are organic as often as possible and are packed with superfoods like macqui berries and chia seeds. Especially popular are their  selection of organic homemade vegan and low-sugar desserts and treats. Open for lunch, dinner and coffee (the dandelion kind if you are keen!), plus takeout is available.

Green Queen Loves: Any of their vegan organic tofu mousses but especially the chocolate hazelnut and the mixed berry varieties! Yum!

Mum Veggie + Coffee + Sweet

Mum Veggie + Coffee + Sweet’s mission is to offer a constantly rotating menu of seasonal fresh dishes, which reflect both Western and Asian influences- from French-inspired wild cepes mushroom quiche to quirky takes on Cantonese classics like Fruit Curry Taro Ball Rice, there is something for everyone. They offer breakfast and lunch including soups, salads and set menus.
Green Queen Loves: We are crazy about their signature lunch rice bowl packed with marinated tofu, pickled daikon and steamed bok choy s as well as seed filled rice.
