Hong Kong Fast Casual Plant-Based Chain MANA Sells its 1 Millionth Flat

2 Mins Read

Less than six years since opening their organically inspired, locally produced, eco-friendly doors back in 2012, plant-based fast slow food concept MANA! have sold their one millionth flat in Hong Kong.

For those who have never taken a bite of founder Bobsy Gaia’s legendary oven-baked flatbread, it is a popular unleavened bread blended with olive oil and zaatar, a Lebanese mixture of herbs, and topped with your choice of 30 toppings from avocado to zucchini. Available in wholemeal or gluten-free, flats are handmade and baked from scratch each morning to ensure wholesome freshness. Wrapped in fully biodegradable and compostable paper, MANA’s two outlets sell more than 500 flats a day and has even earned them the top spot of online food delivery company Deliveroo’s Most Ordered Dish in 2017.

“Every flat served has been a win not only for MANA!, but more importantly for the plant-based and zero-waste movements in Hong Kong,” Gaia said in a statement. “Every customer who orders a flat is voting with his or her dollar to food that truly doesn’t cost the earth. And our customers only keep getting younger and younger.”

As Hong Kong’s only zero waste restaurant, MANA! has long been a champion of sustainability, advocating against food waste and conscious consumption. In the everyday operations of both establishments, produce are sourced from local, organic farmers and unused food scraps are composted daily which are then donated to community farms. Committed to raising awareness on the environment through a plant-based diet, their motto, ‘Eat Like It Matters’ demonstrates that food can be delicious and wholesome without costing the earth.
