6 Mins Read

There are no shortage of places to go if you love your carne, but what about the plant-based amongst us? We roundup our favourite veggie burgers in town, all of which pack a serious yum punch! Can’t promise anything on the health & nutrition front, be warned!

Beyond Burger Green Common Hong Kong

The Beyond Burger Plus @ Green Common

This 100% plant-based burger made with a Beyond Meat patty (aka the company that Bill Gates is funding and the burger patty that is looking to revolutionize the way the world eats) is the absolute real deal in terms of a plant-based burger that tastes and looks like meat. A MUST-TRY if ever there was one. Bonus: the burgers are Buddhist-friendly with no onions or garlic.

What’s In It: 4oz Beyond Meat patty, sliced avocado, sliced Daiya cheese, lettuce, tomato sauce on a vegan bun.

How Much: HKD 108 (without vegan cheese and avocado, the burger is only HKD 78)

Green Common: Central – Shop B2, Basement 1, Alexandra House, 16-20 Chater Road; available from 11:30AM to 8PM Mon-Fri, 11.30AM to 6PM Sat & Sun. Tsim Sha Tsui – Shop OT G61, G/F, Ocean Terminal, Harbour City, 17 Canton Road; available from 11:30AM to 10.30PM Mon-Sun.

Beef & Liberty

The Beetroot @ Beef & Liberty

This veggie burger proves Beef & Liberty is the king of gourmet burgers with a twist- it’s got some serious flavor chops and a spicy undertone we really enjoyed. Don’t miss out on their sweet potato fries either, they are so good!

What’s In It: Beetroot, brown rice, kidney beans, cumin, chili, coriander and goat’s cheese.

How Much: HKD 90 (add HKD 25 for fries, HKD 32 for sweet potato fries)

Big Fernand

Le Lucien @ Big Fernand

A very French take on the plant-based burger trend, this sandwich almost feels like a high-end deli panini with its sweet caramelized onions, sun dried tomatoes and Tomme cheese. You won’t regret your affair with Lucien, we promise.

What’s In It: Portobello mushroom, Tomme de Savoie cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, caramelized onions, chives and Tata Fernand homemade cocktail sauce.

How Much: HKD 100 (add HKD 30  for fries)

Big Fernand: Shop 2017, 2/F, ifc Mall, Central & 11 Paksha Road, Causeway Bay; open 11AM to 9PM.

Veggie SF

The I Am Fabulous @ Veggie SF

Hong Kong’s original veggie burger is still going strong all these years later-the patty itself is seriously yum and their potato and pumpkin wedges are so moreish.

What’s In It: Beetroot-cashew nut-lentil & mushroom pate Glamburger with homemade soy basil mayo, alfalfa, onion, tomato and cucumber.

How Much: HKD 158 (includes potato pumpkin wedges & mixed salad – no burger only option)

Veggie SF: 10F, 11 Stanley Street, Central; open 12PM to 2.30PM & 6PM to 9PM everyday except Sunday.

Butcher's Club

What Food Eats @ The Butchers Club Burger

Probably the most indulgent of the bunch (as well as the priciest) with its bean medley, oyster mushrooms,  potato puree and halloumi,  The Butchers Club take on a veggie burger is large, and very much in charge. Come hungry!

What’s In It: Breaded and fried patty made with chickpeas, white beans, kidney beans, zucchini, peppers, carrots, onion, garlic and crushed, puréed potato topped with oyster mushrooms, tomato slices, lettuce and pan-fried halloumi.

How Much: HKD 120 (add HKD 30  for fries).

The Butchers Club Burger: G/F, 2 Landale Street, Wan Chai; open 8AM to 11PM every day. Central store opening soon on 82 Stanley Street.

MANA

The Burger @ MANA! Fast Slow Food

A firm favourite with Hong Kong’s yoga crowd, there’s no arguing that MANA! makes a great veggie burger any day of the week. Plus, who can resist that addictive garlicnaise?

What’s In It: Halloumi, tofu, roasted veggies, portobello mushrooms & pickled cucumbers in a spelt bun.

How Much: HKD 80 (HKD 120 for the Burger Combo, which includes fries, green salad and a sauce of your choice).

MANA! Fast Slow Food: 92 Wellington Street, Central; open 10AM to 10PM every day.

Burger Circus

The Lion Tamer @ Burger Circus

Burger Circus is a reliable burger joint: not super gourmet, but not super ‘fast food’ either and always reliably yummy, exactly like the Lion Tamer, which is full of umami goodness. Our favorite part? They are open LATE on weekends! Ideal for post-partying noms…

What’s In It: 5oz vegetarian patty, tomato, pickle, savory onions and miso mayonaise.

How Much: HKD 78 (add HKD 30 for fries).

Burger Circus: 22 Hollywood Road, Soho; open 11AM to 11PM every day (until 3AM on Fri-Sat).

Triple Os

Veggie Burger @ Triple O’s

Of all the burgers on this list, this is probably the most ‘fast food’ of all, but it is also the most budget-friendly. It also boasts a lot of happy fans on social media so do give it a go at least once!

What’s In It: Freshly sautéed mushrooms and cheese veggie patty topped with lettuce, tomato and the famous Triple O sauce.

How Much: HKD 62 (HKD 89 for the Veggie Burger Combo, which includes fries and a drink).

Triple O’s: multiple locations including Admiralty, Causeway Bay, Tai Hang & Kowloon. Full list here.

The Northern White Rhino @ HOME Eat To Live (lead image)

August 2017: HOME Eat To Live has closed down.

Newcomer HOME is vying for the veggie burger title crown with this delicious addition to the city’s plant-based sandwich scene. We especially love the spicy house pickled jalapeños and the homemade herb aioli. This also holds the distinction of being the only truly vegan burger in town- just make sure to choose their HOME vegan cheese instead of the halloumi.

What’s In It: Mixed grain & pumpkin patty, halloumi or HOME vegan cheese, pickled jalapeños, herb aioli, butter lettuce, tomato and red onion.

How Much: HKD 98 (HKD 128 for a combo, which includes pickles, salad, fries & sauce)

HOME Eat To Live: G/F & U/G 77 Des Voeux Road Central; open 10AM to 10PM every day except Sunday.
