British luxury fashion brand creating upcycled accessories, BOTTLETOP, has just opened its first Hong Kong store in Tsim Sha Tsui’s newest mall K11 MUSEA. While not the first time the company has forayed outside of the UK with pop-ups in New York and Dallas under its belt, the brand chose Hong Kong’s biodiversity and culture landmark K11 MUSEA as the ultimate destination for their first international permanent store. From using sustainable materials to construct their product line to the very interior of their store design, BOTTLETOP hopes to push for more planet and people friendly habits in the city and around the world.
K11 MUSEA, Hong Kong’s new eco-cultural destination, has just welcomed British upcycled luxury bags and accessories brand BOTTLETOP. From choosing a green mall location – K11 MUSEA has obtained gold certifications from international standard LEED Building Certification and Hong Kong-based BEAM Plus – to designing their store using only recycled and repurposed acrylics, aluminium and everyday materials, the brand is making a statement about their commitment to sustainability.
Founded in 2002 by Oliver Wayman and Cameron Saul, BOTTLETOP uses offcuts and scraps from luxury brands to create fashion accessories such as handbags and totes. In their Hong Kong concept store, BOTTLETOP will showcase their line of upcycled bags made from aluminium ring-pulls and upcycled leather sourced from sustainable farming practices. Throughout the supply chain, these materials and final products are packaged using only recycled cardboard.
Since its inception, the brand has seen their products worn by A-listers such as David Beckham and Emma Watson, but haven’t stopped their sights there: the founders decided to launch a charity foundation that aims to spread awareness about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and help promote greater progress towards achieving them by 2030. It is under this foundation that the duo launched #TOGETHERBANDS, a campaign that seeks to promote planet and people friendly actions around the world.
The aim of the #TOGETHERBAND campaign is to engage an ambitious 1 billion people with their two-pack bracelets, each highlighting one of the 17 United Nations SDGs, to share the message with a friend. Produced by female artisans in Nepal, these bands contribute to opening up decent work opportunities for women, and 100% of the profits will be used to fund their foundation’s social projects around the world. These friendship bracelets are sustainably and responsibly crafted using ocean plastic waste and reclaimed firearm metal from El Salvador. Of course, these will also be featured in the Hong Kong concept store at K11.
In addition, as a part of a collaboration between Green Queen and BOTTLETOP, Togetherbands will be gifted during Vol. 5 of our UN SDG dinner series to spotlight responsible production and consumption. The event will see BOTTLETOP co-founder Oliver Wayman speak about the mission of the campaign as well.
