Green Queen 2020 Trend Predictions: Wellness Returns To Breath

2 Mins Read

Gimmicks be gone! We predict that 2020 will see a return to basics across the wellness space, with the trend being defined by breath. Namely, the importance of good breathing. From hot yoga to dog yoga, mindfulness to meditation, there’s been no shortage of fads and concepts across the wellness space. But many of us have gotten burned and learned: real wellness starts with good breathing and you can’t properly engage your mind and body without it.

In recent years, wellness has boomed into a massive industrial complex, and we’ve seen an over-saturation of supposedly stress-relieving, relaxation inducing, sleep fixing and generally beneficial activities, from tarot card reading and detox courses to yoga and meditation. We say supposedly not because all of them are fads, but because we’ve reached peak wellness, with businesses and brands capitalising on these trend by launching mystically-named activities in the name of modern-day wellbeing with no evidence of it actually working (apart from leaving a significant dent in your wallet). For many, wellness is just another excuse to compete for that perfect body and the ideal Insta-life. On top of self-esteem issues, our obsession with all of this has had some not-so-healthy after-effects, such as long-lasting hip injuries.

Here’s the thing: we need more stillness and we need more focus on the ultimate life force, our breath. The practice of Breathworks, used by everyone from astronauts to crisis-counsellors, is finally gaining traction as people everywhere realize that without good breathing, the rest is a surface addiction. The irony is that many of the ancient traditions that wellness takes its inspiration from, such as yoga, were originally entirely about breath.

So in 2020, get prepared for a return to breathing more deeply and more consciously. Breathworks, a combination of breathing techniques and exercises, can fundamentally alter your health, leaving you feeling focuses and energised, not to mental deeply relaxed. It isn’t just about our physical wellbeing, but our emotional and mental health too – breathing has a huge impact on how we think, feel and act, and the good news is that we’re finally waking up to it.
