BREAKING: Green Queen Joins Covering Climate Now Media Partnership Ahead Of UN Climate Action Summit

Green Queen will be joining Covering Climate Now, a media partnership project co-founded by Columbia Journalism Review (CJR) and The Nation to improve the global coverage of the planet’s climate emergency. The campaign was launched as millions of student activists prepare for Global Climate Strikes in the coming weeks, with the first strike to occur in the days before world leaders adjoin for the New York United Nations Climate Action Summit on the 23rd September. The worldwide collaboration to increase climate attention in the media has already attracted over 250 news organisations spanning across 32 countries.

Ahead of the UN Climate Action Summit in New York where governments submit plans to meet the Paris Agreement pledge to keep global warming down, over 250 newsrooms, magazines, television broadcasters and photo agencies from around the world will be joining in on Covering Climate Now’s ambitious effort to organise greater attention on the crisis. With The Guardian as one of the project’s key partners, the campaign is predicted to attain a combined monthly reach of over one billion people. As part of our mission to shift consumer behaviour by advocating for social and environmental change, Green Queen is proud to announce that as Asia’s original eco wellness media, we are joining Covering Climate Now, and we will run one climate story per day between September 16th and 23rd.

Published as part of the Covering Climate Now coverage, a major news poll conducted by CBS News revealed that over two-thirds of Americans believe that climate change is a crisis or a serious problem. Commenting on these findings, founder of the Climate Mobilisation Project said that “Americans are finally beginning to wake up to the existential threat that the climate emergency poses to our society.” 

While awareness about climate change has reached an all-time high, there remains not enough immediate action to address the dire consequences of our global unpreparedness of our planet’s emergency. Just last week, a new report by the Global Commission on Adaptation (GCA) with input from major figures like Ban Ki-moon and Bill Gates warned that at our current rate, the world is facing a climate apartheid.

By joining this international media collaboration, we hope to heighten the profile of climate change in Hong Kong, Asia and beyond, and to call on governments, the business community and citizens to commit to action now.
