South Stream Seafoods

Why we love them: South Stream Seafoods fish is so fresh, that when you place your order it has not yet left NZ or Australia, and is only flown in after purchase.  Their frozen fish arrives fresh and is processed and frozen on the premises.  They focus on seafood from New Zealand (NZ) and Australia.  You can visit in them in person in Yuen Long to learn more and see them in action.

What they carry:  A wide array of fresh and frozen seafood including salmon, cod, groper, mackerel, lobster, prawns, tuna, swordfish, squid and octopus to name a few with their stock determined by market availablity.  They also carry smoked fish and for even fish for babies.  In addition South Stream Seafoods also carries organic meats, juices, grocery items, frozen produce and cleaning products.

How to buy:  Order online through their site.  Free delivery for orders over $500.  Delivery schedule changes based on shipment dates.

Wild C – January 2016 Update: This Business Is Now Closed

Why we love them: Wild C is an online shop offering wild seafood and fish from sustainable sources in Iceland and Greenland.   Looking for new ideas for dinner?  The site also features a selection of recipes that provide useful information on the various types of fish and are convinently organized by both preperation and fish type such as Poached Arctic Trout fillets in White Wine and Grilled Halibut with Cilantro Garlic Butter, yum!  For an easier dinner they also carry a selection of half-baked breads and prepared seafood.

What they carry: They stock an array of seafood including prawns, lobsters, whelks, salmon, sole, mackerel, halibut, cod & plaice with new selections arriving throughout the year.

Meat Market & The Meatery

Why we love them: Located in Midlevels, Meat Market & The Meatery stocks a selection of sustainable seafood including wild caught seafood that is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council from around the world including The website allows you to easily understand what you are buying  As the anme implies they also stock organic meats including chicken, pork and beef.

What they carry:  Wild Greenland halibut and wild Alaskan salmon.  If you are on a salmon kick they have a wide selection of fresh, and never previously frozen, Tasmanian salmon including smoked options.

How to buy:  They offer free delivery and use reusable and returnable insulated pouches.

Green Dot Dot

Why we love them: Green Dot Dot stocks a selection of sustainable and wild caught seafood from places such as Canada, Madagascar and NZ.  Green Dot Dot  also carries a large selection of organic meats and other grocery items all without GMOs or preservatives.

What they carry:  They carry both fish such as hoki and red cod, as well as prawns, scallops, mussels and lobster tails.

How to buy:  With locations 22 locations in MTR stations throughout Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories as well as delivery services they are an easy way to get all of your green shopping done.

Fish Marketing Organization (FMO)

Why we love them: The Fish Marketing Organization (FMO) is non-profit a local organization that promotes local aquaculture and fisheries that have been tested for toxins and are sourced from water that is monitered as part of the “Accredited Fish Farm Scheme”.   Show their logo to fishmongers at the wet-markets to buy fish that have gone through their testing scheme.

What they carry:  The FMO carries a changing selection of chilled, frozen and dried seafood.

How to buy:  They operate seven wholesale markets in Aberdeen, Shau Kei Wan, Kwun Tong, Cheung Sha Wan, Castle Peak, Tai Po and Sai Kung.  They also have a Facebook shop that has just launched (note that the English menu is the first drop down).
