Dunkin Donuts Adds Over 40 Vegan Donuts In Belgium

Multinational doughnut company, Dunkin’, also known as Dunkin’ Donuts, recently announced that it has launched more than 40 vegan versions of its popular donuts in Belgium with plans to be available in stores across the country from mid-May.

In an effort to expand its plant-based offerings, U.S.-headquartered Dunkin’ unveiled its new vegan doughnuts on the online website in Belgium with a wide variety of flavours such as peanut butter and jelly, vanilla cacao, lotus sensation, original glazed, strawberry, pistachio and cinnamon swirl, sugared raspberry, and whimsical items including one doughnut that looks like a bee with salted pretzel antennae.

The company shared the news in a social media post: “New New New vegan donuts. Yes, your prayers have been heard! From today on you can order more than 40 vegan donuts via www.dunkindelivery.be. But keep an eye on our account because our vegan donuts will also be available in our stores from mid-May!”

While it is still unclear whether these vegan donuts will be available in the U.S. and at Dunkin’ outlets across the world, last year the group’s CEO David Hoffman did hint at the possibility, saying in an interview that the chain is working to “investigate a viable vegan doughnut option” and is “looking at it closely.”

Animal-rights group Animal Outlook had previously sponsored a petition that urged the company to create vegan doughnuts, and saw support from over 20,000 people.

This launch is in line with Dunkin’ trying to increase its plant-based offerings across the board. Earlier this year, the chain introduced a new vegan menu item: avocado toast featuring fresh avocado spread on vegan sourdough. In addition, Dunkin’ includes dairy-free milk alternatives by Planet Oat and other plant-based milk substitutes, though the latter come at a surcharge.

The chain unveiled a vegetarian Southwest Veggie Power breakfast sandwich for a limited period of time that included egg, dairy cheese and a vegan black bean patty from U.S.-based MorningStar Farms, a division of the Kellogg company.

Back in 2020, the company joined forces with plant-based meat giant Beyond Meat and launched a breakfast sandwich using Beyond Sausage, which is available at all 9,000 Dunkin’ locations in the U.S.

Even its sister brand Baskin-Robbins now serves up vegan ice cream flavours made from coconut oil and almond butter.
